ST. SIMON’S PARISH PASTORAL COUNCIL.

 

Minutes of the Spring Meeting held on Monday, 1st March, 2010 at

at 7.05 p.m. in Café Simon.

 

1.  J. Henderson, Chair, welcomed everyone and invited Fr. Slavin to start the meeting with a prayer.

2.  Present were:  M. Burke, K. Drury, J. Henderson, N. Kelly, E. Kidd, S. Lamb, S. O’Donnell, J. Papamichail, B. Torsney, A. Alfer, Sr. M. Ross, M. McCarron, Rev. W. Slavin and Rev. Deacon Kernaghan.

Apologies were received from: L. McGurn, Rev. J. Lawlor.  Also absent were: M. Magennis, J. McCormick, J. McMillan, J. McShane, G. Porter, & J. McNeill.

3.  Minutes of the Winter Meeting on 7th December, 2009 were approved by B. Torsney, seconded by M. Burke, after two corrections, 7:1. 2009/10 not 2008/09 and 7:5 Aqua Viva not Aqua Vita.

4.  Conduct of Worship.  Deacon Kernaghan, Convenor gave the report.

 1. Sunday Mass Schedule.  No change but need to recruit further ministers.  There was a discussion as to the best method.  Personal approach or flyer?  Personal approach was preferred.

 2.  Daily Mass Schedule.  Functioning.

 3.  Housebound.  3 at Overnewton.

 4.  Lent/Easter/Pentecost.  As per pamphlets.

5.  Pastoral Care.  As there is no convenor, several people gave the reports.

 1.  Reminiscences Group.  Every second Saturday. 

 2.  SVdP.  Carrying on.  Mostly involved with helping Emmaus and Frederick Ozanam Centre.

 3.  Café Simon.  Needs more volunteers.

 4.  Keynotes will be sent out as an Easter Edition.

6.  Education in Faith.  B. Torsney, Convenor gave the report.

  1.  2009/10 Further Education in Faith Programme.  This is held in St. Peter’s Hall on Tuesdays. The second term has started.

  2.  RCIA/RCIC.  11 candidates between both Parishes.  There are 36 children for first communion and 33 for first confession. 

  4.  Ascent Group.  Weekly meeting during Lent.

7.  Finance & Fabric.  As J. McCormick, Convenor was absent, S. O’Donnell gave the report.

  1.  Expenditure to Date.  On Schedule.

  2.  Budget to date.  Other than the VAT to be reclaimed by the Archdiocese on the refurbishment expenses, we have cleared the debt to them except for the levy which will be paid this month.

8.  Polish Chaplaincy.  Alek Alfer gave a personal view of how he thinks the relationship between the two communities is not progressing.  He then resigned and stated that the council will have to contact Fr. Marian to request a new representative.

9.  Child and Vulnerable Persons Protection.  Sister Mary reported that nothing has been decided yet.  A meeting of the Advisory Group will take place next week.  Sister Mary and Deacon Dean have been tasked with setting up training for parishes.

10.  AOB:  Father Slavin would like passport size photos of the council members as soon as possible.  Pass to J. Henderson or S. O’Donnell.  Father Lawlor is working with a group for St. Peter’s to host events during West End Festival Week.

10.  2010 Meetings.  These will be 7th June, 6th September, 1st November (AGM) and 6th December.

 

This being all the business, J. Henderson thanked everyone for attending and closed the meeting at 8.40 pm with a prayer.
